How to choose a lawyer?

1) Be honest about your current situation.

The problems caused by your current legal issues can be many layers deep. These problems rarely affect just your business.  The effects can also be seen in you as a person as the problem causes you anxiety and you can’t concentrate on doing what is important to you. These issues may take away time that you could have spent with someone you care about, and it can also cause the people around you to question you a person.

Next, you need to find out what you would like to happen instead?  Why you want these desired outcomes, and what is the desired outcome for you, your family and your business.

Asking these questions may not be pleasant, but I believe knowing where you are now, and where you want to be instead is the first step in finding the right attorney who has the ability to close the gap between where you are now, and where you want to be instead.

2) What is the experience and expertise of the lawyers?

Make sure know you what your situation is and what you want to achieve as the criteria of picking the right attorney will flow out of those answers.

We are a business law firm that’s all we do.

I believe in most cases, settling the case makes the most business sense.  However, there are times, that we just need to have our days in court and be heard.  Thus, my approach has been preparing the case for trial and at the same time, looking for the window of opportunity to settle the case that is acceptable to you.

The bottom line is that we represent you with purpose.

3) What is the lawyers’ view about settlement and trial?

This depends on the situation . You may have been totally wronged and cheated and you have done absolutely nothing.  There are times when each party is the cause of a disputes  albeit to different degrees.

If the formal situation, the other party generally will just offer to settle with you.  If not, then these types of cases are generally more suitable to go trial.

On the other hand, often it is the situation is that both parties share the cause of the disputes, rightly or wrongly.  Due to the cost of having the cases tried, and a bit of an unpredictable outcome of these trials, these type of cases generally make business sense to settle.

We approach cases with both litigation and settlement going forward simultaneously as both can have the potential to solve your problem in different ways.  The benefit of working both tracks simultaneously is that we are always ready regarding whatever the circumstances call for.

4) Is it important to hire a lawyer with integrity.

You bet.  You are being cheated and taken advantage of by your business partners or associate and that is enough.  You should not leave yourself open to be taken advantage of by your own lawyer.

On very few occasions, potential clients ask us if we are okay about underhand litigation tactics, and we say NO.  There is a difference between not helping other side to work up their case, and dealing with them in a dishonest way.

The bottom line is that we serve our clients zealously, and deal with opposing parties and their counsel professionally.  It’s important to treat opposing parties and counsel with professionalism because it often will open up more opportunities for earlier and amicable resolution of your case.!

Meet Tony

I grew up with two loving and honest parents.  But unfortunately, every time they engaged in a partnership for business ventures hoping to provide their family a better lifestyle, they were either doing all the work and not being appreciated by their business partners, or their investments were downright stolen.

From 6 to about 15 years old, I saw how lousy business relationships with the wrong person impacted their finances and our family lifestyle.  Yes, I could only watch my classmates and friends with nice things, and I was afraid even to ask my parents to buy them for me.

And most important of all was the impact that the lousy business partnership had on their self-esteem and self-worth.

I wished that someone could have advised my parents about what they should or should not have been doing before entering into a business relationship and how to get out when it does not work out.
I grew up and became that person as a lawyer.
